Trying to Believe is a new body of work that deals with the disillusionment that comes with today’s political, economic, and physical climate, and our constant sense of impending doom. It is also a reaction to a deeply personal struggle Dina has always had with the philosophical questions of our mortality and the afterlife. The series draws on Dina’s religious upbringing, which espoused a physical, literal heaven, and merges this idea with her current, contrasting belief system. Trying to Believe tackles the idea of ‘If a heaven did exist, what would it look like for the individual’? For Dina, the concept of pure bliss is manifested in abstracted color and light, which is explored throughout this body of work.
